Range
N. Pacific Ocean;
Breeds on the w. Hawaiian and Leeward Is. (Kure, Midway, Pearl, Hermes Reef, Lisianski, Laysan, French Frigate Shoals, Necker, Nihoa and Kauai), Izu (Tori Shima) and s. Ryukyu Is. Apparently expanding its range in the e. Pacific Ocean where it now nests on islands off Baja. Formerly bred on the n. Bonin Is. , Volcano Is. (Iwo Jima), Marianas (Agrihan), n. Marshall Is. (Taongi), Marcus, Wake and Johnston Is.
Disperses throughout the n. Pacific as far n. as the Bering Sea including Taiwan, China, Japan, Siberia, Alaska, Canada, the United States, Mexico (Pacific coast of the Baja). Formerly bred in the n. Bonin (Ogasawara), Volcano (Iwo Jima), Mariana (Agrihan), n. Marshall, Marcus, Wake and Johnston Is.
