Range
Sw. and c. Pacific Ocean;
Breeds off on is. off New Zealand (North Island at Poor Knights (?), Portland and Three Kings Is.) and on New Caledonia, Lord Howe, Norfolk, Kermadec (Raoul, Meyer, Macauley and Curtis Is.), Chatham (Rangatira (South East) and North Is.), Austral, Tubuai (Rapa Is. and Bass Rocks), Australia (Heron Is. off Queensland and New South Wales off Wollongong). During the breeding season, it ranges mainly n. and e. of North Island, New Zealand from w. of Auckland Peninsula to Chatham Is.
Disperses into the n. Tasman Sea and the sw. and c. Pacific to the Hawaiian, Kiribati, Marshall, Cook, Society, Marquesas and Fiji Is. In the e. Pacific Ocean, it occurs between 160°W and 110°W and 0° and 20°N.
