Se. Atlantic Ocean; Sw. Pacific Ocean;
Two widely separated populations;
Breeds s. of 30°S on Tristan da Cunha and Gough Is. in the s. Atlantic Ocean. In the sw. Pacific Ocean on Snares, Chatham and Stewart Is. off s. New Zealand (South Island, Foveaux Strait and islets off Stewart Is., sw. fiords).
Dispersal pattern is poorly known due to identification problems at sea. Disperses s. of 30°S into the se. Atlantic to sw. Africa (Namibia, South Africa and s. Mozambique), se. South America (Bahia), and into the sw. Pacific (New Zealand, North Island and South Island) and the Tasman Sea off se. Australia.
