Range
New Zealand; (1) The sw. coast of South Island (s. Westland from Open Bay is. to Perpendicular Point, the 'Steeples' and Westport). (2) North Island in the Hauraki Gulf (Noises to Waiheke, Tarakihi and Ponui Is. and is. off Coromandel Peninsula), along the w. coast of Aukland (Oaia, Ihumoana and Girdwood Point), Somes and Ward Is. in Wellington Harbor. On South Island from sw. Nelson, Cook Strait between Cape Farewell and Marlborough Sound s. to Goose Bay, Banks Peninsula, Otago Peninsula and perhaps Stewart Is. Disperses during winter along coasts of Manawartu, Wellington and Wairarapa, Goose Bay, Banks Peninsula, s. Canterbury, Otago and Southland from Nugget Point and Te Waewae Bay.
