Colorado, c. Nebraska and Iowa. An isolated population occurs in c. Nebraska, Iowa, on the Great Lakes of n. Illinois to n. Ohio.
Winters s. from the Great Lakes (Lake St. Clair and w. Lake Erie) and along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and in the Mississippi Valley to the s. United States, Bermuda, the West Indies (Bahamas and Greater Antilles), and through Central America from Mexico to Costa Rica, Panama (Canal Zone, Lake Madden, Lake Gatun and the Chagres River above Gamboa), n. Colombia, n. Venezuela (Falcon, Aragua, Miranda, Monagas and Margarita Is.), Trinidad, Tobago, Surinam, w. Ecuador, and Hawaiian Is.
