Range

Ec. Africa; S. Africa;
Two breeding populations;
Nc. Ethiopia (Bale Mountains) s. to ex. s. Sudan, ex. ne. Zaire, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya (local in Rift Valley and c. and w. highlands), ex. s. Somalia and n. Tanzania (Crater Highland lakes). Zimbabwe, ne. Botswana, ex. s. Mozambique and through South Africa to Cape Province to w. and c. Namibia.
Disperses throughout e. and s. Africa (sw. Cape Province, Transvaal, Orange Free State).
