Ne. Siberia and n. North America;
Fragmented population;
(1) An isolated population breeds on Wrangel Is. and possibly on the Chukotski Peninsula in ne. Siberia. The main population extends from n. Alaska (locally) and across n. Canada on Banks, Victoria, Prince of Wales and Somerset Is. s. to n. Mackenzie (Mackenzie River delta, Anderson and Perry Rivers), Keewatin (Beverly Lake, Southampton and Coats Is. in the Hudson Bay, the McConnell and Tha-Anne Rivers), Manitoba (e. of Churchill), n. Ontario (Cape Henrietta Maria and Akimiski Is. in the James Bay) and s. Baffin Is.
(2) E. Devon Is., e. Ellesmere and ex. n. Baffin Is. and nw. Greenland.
Migration: (2) the entire population apparently stops at Cape Tourmente, Quebec, ca. about 50km e. of Quebec City.
Winter: (1) Japan n. from c. Honshu, then in sw. Canada (sw. British Columbia (Fraser River), s. Vancouver Is.) s. to the s. United States (nw. and sw. Washington (Columbia River), nw. and sc. Oregon, nw. Nevada, ex. ne. California and in the Central Valley and Salton Sea areas, sw. Arizona, nc. and se. Colorado, e. and s. New Mexico, w. and Gulf coast of Texas, Nebraska, se. Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri (Squaw Creek NWR), Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi and nw. Florida (Panhandle) extending s. into nw. and ne. Mexico wandering as far s. as Tabasco, Chiapas and Sinaloa. (2) Along the Atlantic coast from s. New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

FLA (Panhandle) extending s. into nw. and ne. Mexico. (2) Along the Atlantic coast from s. NJY, DEL, MYD, VIR, NCA and SCA.
