Range

Nc. North America along w. shore of Hudson Bay;
Fragmented population;
Breeds in n. Alaska and n. Canada almost exclusively in the Queen Maud Gulf and Perry River region of ne. Mackenzie (Northwest Territories). Occasionally breeds on Banks Is. and s. Southampton Is. (Boas River delta and probably East Bay) and the McConnell River delta into Hudson Bay in se. Keewatin to ne. Manitoba.
Migrates through wc. Canada along the Alberta-Saskatchewan border through Oregon and nw. Montana (Freezeout Lake).
Winters principally in the w. United States in c. and s. California (Klamath Basin, Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys and in the vicinity of the Salton Sea), less frequently in the Rio Grande Valley of New Mexico and along the Gulf coasts of Texas and Louisiana.

Migrates through wc. Canada along the ALB-SAS border through ORG and nw. MON (Freezeout Lake).
Winter: principally in the w. United States in c. and s. CAL (Klamath Basin, Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys and in the vicinity of the Salton Sea), less frequently in the Rio Grande Valley of NMX and along the Gulf coasts of TEX and LOU.
