N. North America;
(1) Formerly on Bering Is. and n. Kuril Is.
(2) Aleutian Is. (Buldir and Chagulak Is. and has been reintroduced to Amchitka and Aggatu Is.).
Winters in Japan from e. Honshu n. and w. United States in c. California (Hayward Regional Shoreline) and nw. Mexico.
(3) Along the w. coast of Alaska from Nushagak Bay to vicinity of Wainwright.
Winters in w. United States from the interior of California to nw. Mexico (Baja and Sonora).
(4) Interior of Alaska from the base of the Alaskan Peninsula to nw. Canada (Mackenzie River Delta).
Winters in the sw. United States and Mexico.
(5) Nc. arctic Canada from the Anderson River Delta e. to s. Victoria Is., King William Is., the Boothia Peninsula, Melville Peninsula, Southampton, Ellesmere, s. Baffin Is. and Labrador as well as a small area on the wc. coast off Greenland.
Winters along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico from Texas to Mexico (Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Jalisco).

Canada (YUK, Mackenzie River Delta), (5) nc. arctic Canada in the NWT (MAC, KEE, FRA) from the Anderson River Delta e. to s. Victoria Is., King William Is., the Boothia Peninsula, Melville Peninsula, Southampton, Ellesmere and s. Baffin Is. as well as a small area on the wc. coast off Greenland.
Winter: the winter ranges overlap extensively, (2) n. and w. United States in c. CAL and nw. Mexico, (3) w. United States from the interior of CAL to nw. Mexico (Baja and Sonora), (4) in the sw. United States (NEV, UTH, ARZ, NMX and Mexico, (5) along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico from TEX to Mexico (Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Jalisco),
