Range

Sw. Australia; Se. Australia and Tasmania;
Two populations;
S. Western Australia (Recherche Archipelago, Woody Is. off Esperance). South Australia (is. off the Eyre Peninsula including the Sir Joseph Banks Group, the Investigator Group and the Nuyts Archipelago, Tower Hill State Game Reserve near Warrnambool, Spencer Gulf,), Victoria (is. off Wilson's Promontory including Great Glennie, Anser and Kanowna Is.), is. of the Bass Strait (Furneaux Is. including Mt. Chappell, Badger, Big Green, East Kangaroo and Vansittart Is.) and n. Tasmania (Maria Island National Park).
Disperses throughout the region from the Eyre Peninsula (Big Swamp near Port Lincoln, e. side of the peninsula) e. to the Murray River region and Victoria (Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads near Queenscliffe, Colac region, Wilson's Promontory near Yanakie Isthmus);
Introduced to Kangaroo Is. off South Australia.
Formerly New Zealand where it was introduced.
