Range
S. South America; Falkland Is.;
Two populations;
(1) S. Chile n. to Linares and Talca (35°S.), c. Argentina in Patagonia n. to Neuquen and Rio Negro (38°S.) and s. to Cape Horn and Tierra del Fuego and Staten Is.
Winters n. to c. Chile (Colchagua) and ne. Argentina n. to s. Buenos Aires Province (barred phase in coastal grasslands and white phase further inland). Vagrants occur n. to Uruguay.
(2) The Falkland Is.
Introduced to South Georgia where presently thought to be extinct.
