Range

E. Asia and Japan;
Fragmented distribution;
Se. Siberia (Amurland, Ussuriland, s. Sakhalin Is.) s. through Korea to ne. China (Changbei Shan Nature Reserve, Kumara River in Heilungkiang (Manchuria) and possibly n. Hopeh) and Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu) s. to the Ryukyu Is. (Okinawa). Formerly may have bred in the s. Kuril Is. Migrates through China as far w. as se. Kansu and e. Szechwa and through Korea (Taesong'dong and Panmucnch'om Marshes in South Korea).
Winters s. to se. China from Chekiang to n. Kwangtung and irregularly to s. Kwangtung and Kwangsi) and occasionally to Taiwan. Introduced and established in the British Isles in se. England (Surrey, e. Berkshire) and Scotland (Perth).
