Range
Palearctic;
(1) Nw. Africa and Europe (s. British Isles, s. Sweden, and c. Finland e. across nw. and c. Russia and c. Siberia to the Sea of Okhotsk, Kamchatka, Sakhalin Is., and the Kuril Is. and n. Japan (Hokkaido) s. in Poland (Biebrza Marsh), Mediterranean Basin in Morocco and Tunisia, Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily and Cyprus, Turkey, Israel, n. Jordan (Dibbin Forest National Park) e. through s. Russia to w. and n. Iran, n. Afghanistan, Himalayas of n. Pakistan, n. India (Kashmir e. to Garwhal) and China.
Winters in c. and s. Africa (Kenya in the c. highlands) and s. Asia (Indian Subcontinent).
(2) S. and e. China s. from Qin Ling Mountains (s. Shaonxi). Probably also in n. and e. Burma and n. Indochina (Laos).
Winters s. to the Greater Sundas (Java and Timor) and sometimes Taiwan.
