Range

E. Europe to w. Asia;
Hungary and Romania e. through Ukraine to sw. Russia (Volga River Valley), n. Iraq, n. Caspian Sea area, n Caucasus, n. Kazakhstan, Kirghiz steppes and sw. Siberia (Altai region).
On migration occurs in coastal plain of Israel, Iran, Nigeria, Sudan, w. Kenya, w. Uganda, Zaire, Angola, w. Zambia, and less frequently in Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
Winters in s. Africa in Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa, and irregularly in w. Africa.
