Range
Se. South America. Africa s. of the Sahara;
Three populations;
(1) Coastal ec. South America from Paraguay, s. Brazil, Uruguay and ne. Argentina s. to Buenos Aires. Isolated population along the coast of Ecuador and Peru. Recorded off Brazil (ne. Bahia).
(2) Coastal w. Africa from sw. Mauritania, Senegambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Togo and Benin. Along the middle to upper Niger River of Niger and Nigeria and Lake Chad. E. Africa in the Blue Nile and White Nile Valleys of Sudan and Ethiopia through the Rift Valley lakes to Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa. Coastal n. Angola and Namibia. S. Madagascar.
