Range
Sahel zone of sub-Saharan Africa and s. Arabian Peninsula to e. India;
Fragmented distribution with two main populations;
(1) S. Mauritania and Senegambia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, c. and se. Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Lake Chad region, Central Africa Republic and c. Sudan.
(2) Egypt (Nile Valley).
(3) Ne. Africa from se. Sudan to n. Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia.
(4) S. Ethiopia, Kenya and n. Tanzania.
(5) Sw. Saudi Arabia.
(6) Iran, Pakistan and India s. of the Himalayas.
Introduced (6) to Hawaiian Islands (Hawaii).
