North America e. of the Rocky Mountains;
Sc. and se. Canada from ec. Saskatchewan and s. Manitoba to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and s. to the e. United States in e. New Mexico, sc. and s. Texas, coast of the Gulf of Mexico and sc. Florida. An isolated population sporadically breeds in s. California and possibly Arizona.
Winter in wc. South America in e. Ecuador, w. and e. Peru, nw. Brazil and possibly n. Chile.
