Range

Himalayas to se. Siberia, Japan, Greater Sundas, Philippines, Sulawesi, Moluccas, New Guinea, n. and e. Australia;
Fragmented distribution;
(1) Himalayas of n. India (Garhwal, n. Assam, n. Cachar) and Nepal to c. and e. China (Manchuria), se. Siberia (Soviet Far East to lower Amur River), Korea and Japan (Honshu to Kyushu).
Winters s. to s. Asia (n. Thailand) and the Greater Sundas (Sumatra, Java and Borneo).
(2) S. Himalayas of ne. India (s. Assam) to Burma and Indochina to Greater Sundas (Sumatra), Philippines and Ryukyu Is. with a single breeding record for Dagasuli in Loloda Is. off nw. Halmahera.
Winters s. and e. to n. Sulawesi and Moluccas.
(3) Sw. India (Western Ghata s. to Kerala).
(4) Sc. Sri Lanka.
(5) S. Andaman Is.
(6) Simeulue Is. off nw. Sumatra.
(7) New Guinea including Karkar, Bagabag, Western Papuan Is., Yapen Is., Rook Is., Trobriand Is., D'Entrecasteaux Archipelago and Louisiade Archipelago.
(8) Bismarck Archipelago.
(9) Solomon Is. (Bougainville, Buka, Feni, Guadalcanal, Ulawa, Uki and San Cristobal and probably Nissan Is.).
(10) Lesser Sundas, s. Sulawesi and Sula Is., n., e. and se. Australia (ne. Western Australia and n. Northern Territory. C. Queensland s. to New South Wales along the Pacific Highway and Princes Highway, Australian Capital Territory (Campbell Park), n. Victoria and possibly ex. se. South Australia). S. populations winter n. to New Guinea and Wallacea.
