Range

W. Africa through n. sub-Saharan Africa to e. and s. tropical Africa. Sw. Arabia.
Two populations;
(1) S. Mauritania, Senegambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, s. Mali along the Niger River, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, s. Niger n. to 17°N, n. Cameroon, s. Chad, Central African Republic, s. Sudan n. to 20°N along the Nile River to Ethiopia, s. Somalia, Uganda s. to Kigezi and n. Kenya s. to Rabai.
(2) Ne. Ethiopia, Eritrea, sw. Saudi Arabia, Yemen.
(3) S. Uganda, se. Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, s. Zaire, Malawi, w. and s. Mozambique, e. and s. Zambia, s. Botswana, Zimbabwe to Angola and e. South Africa (n. Transvaal and n. Natal).
(4) S. Angola to sc. Namibia.
